Myra Moans Left Healthcare Because It Was ‘Too Close to Death.’ Her Mom Suggested Porn, and the Seven Cats Weren’t Negotiable

In brief: On The Adult Time Podcast (posted Oct. 13), Myra Moans told host Bree Mills she left a nursing-home job and then a hospital housekeeping job during COVID because they were “too close to death,” that her mom suggested she go back to adult work, and that she would never rehome her cats.

Plenty of performers say their family took the news badly. Myra Moans says her mom brought it up first.

The performer and podcaster sat down with director and host Bree Mills for “MYRA MOANS: Dating Pornstars, Solo Scenes, & Step Families,” an Adult Time Podcast episode posted Oct. 13. Mills opened with a game of “fact or cap.” Has Myra seriously thought about quitting porn to go live in the woods? “Factish,” she said. She wouldn’t quit, but she fantasizes about leaving everything for the woods, and says she found a middle ground: “I’m now very secluded where I’m at.”

‘Too close to death’

She said she started with solo shoots for small studios in 2020, quit, and went back to “the real world.” She took a nursing-home job during COVID, she said, planning to get her CNA certification and become a travel nurse, since staff shortages made it a way into healthcare without a college degree. It drained her:

just like I’m too happy of a person to be near death all the time. Sorry, man.

So she switched jobs. “I started being a housekeeper at a hospital and I was just still too close to death for me, man.” She said she came home miserable every day for months, until her mom, near Christmas, told her: “Like maybe you should just like do like porn again.” Her mom, she said, pointed out that the happiest she had ever seen her was when she was making good money and traveling.

Moving in with her stepdad wasn’t an option either, she said, because at the time she had seven cats. (She has four now.) “I was never going to rehome my cats. Never. I would rather live in a cardboard box.” She went back to shooting in 2023, she said, and now: “this is the longest job I’ve ever kept in my life, by the way.” Her verdict on her mom’s advice: “Maybe everyone knew me a little bit more than I knew myself.”

Windows, a Ford truck, and ‘Moans’

Her first stage name, AVN has reported, was Myra Glasford. She told Mills she made it up on the spot when an agent asked for a name, and the inspiration was whatever was in front of her: “Saw some windows, saw a Ford truck.” Later, on a set in Florida, she wanted something alliterative and “like a sexual word,” but kept the Myra. Someone else suggested “Moans.” Her reaction: “how did I not think of that?”

Her advice to new performers was practical. “Always check your call sheets before you leave town,” she said, after a director who booked her while she was already traveling was upset she didn’t have the outfit he wanted. Also: “Always speak up. Always communicate. If you don’t like something, just say it.” She said she has done “over 200 scenes at this point.”

A cat-allergic boyfriend who does the litter boxes

She said she started dating performer Axel Haze after an AVN week party in the year she was nominated for Best New Starlet: “I GOT LIKE 11 NOMS THAT YEAR.” A friend texted him for her that night. Axel said he already had plans with someone else, she said, then canceled them: “All right, forget it. I’m canceling on her.” Her response when he arrived: “Well, yes, I think you should make me a priority if you want it that bad.”

He is allergic to cats, she said, but the four cats love him anyway. “He’ll get a little sneezy here and there, but nothing crazy,” she said. “Does their litter boxes for me.” The household has since added bearded dragons and tortoises. A typical date, by her account, is feeding the reptiles, the farmers market, maybe a surf session and a picnic.

Flipping the mic

Myra co-created the comedy podcast Poddy Break with Christopher Kapoh-Perez, so Mills handed her the question cards for a round called “Flip the Host.” She said Poddy Break is paused for now, “But yeah, she’s still alive though.” When Myra asked for Mills’ dream guest, Mills named Cherie DeVille, whom she said she cast in pretty much everything from 2016 to 2020, and called her “the president of porn as far as I’m concerned.” Myra agreed and said DeVille “just told me how to make my house smell good yesterday.”

Asked which scene type is wildly overrated, she picked step-family storylines: “steps I mean come on man we’ve been there done that.” Mills pointed out that the genre now has step cousins. Myra’s reply: “I’m down to do step cousins.” Mills said she has Myra booked opposite Ken Fields this fall in a Pure Taboo script her wife pitched, about “an overnight nanny who discovers that the husband that she’s sitting for has been secretly stealing her panties.”

Myra Moans was one of 15 nominees for Best New Starlet at the 2025 AVN Awards, and AVN covered the nominee panel. Her nomination count, work history, healthcare jobs and relationship story come from her own account on the show; we haven’t independently confirmed them. The transcript is YouTube’s automatic one, so we only quoted lines that are clearly hers or clearly Mills’.

Finish the sentence, Mills said: People assume I’m blank, but I’m actually blank. “People probably assume I’m like a little more unhinged, but actually I’m very chill.” The cats could not be reached for comment.
