The entire show. That’s a commitment.
Netflix’s East of Eden is a seven-episode limited series adapting John Steinbeck’s 1952 novel, created by Zoe Kazan and starring Florence Pugh as Cathy Ames, Deadline reported. It premiered Oct. 1, and by Oct. 5 Collider reported it had become the No. 1 show on Netflix.
Christopher Abbott, Mike Faist and Hoon Lee co-star, according to Netflix’s Tudum.
That puts Reign right in step with the rest of the streaming audience. A week after launch, plenty of viewers were giving up their weekends to the Trask family, and she apparently gave up hers too.
There’s a certain logic to it. Steinbeck’s story deals with temptation, family secrets and a villain who’s very good at hiding in plain sight. Some would call it October viewing after all.
Reign didn’t single out an episode or a character, and she didn’t need to. “It’s everything” is a review a publicist would frame.
For a seven-episode series, “the entire” show is a long night, but she seems to think it was worth losing the sleep over, and she wanted the whole timeline to know.
Next on the reading list, presumably: the 600-page novel. No word yet on whether she’ll binge that too.
