Eva Maxim Gave Her Dad One Warning: ‘If You See Someone That Looks Like Me, It’s Me. Don’t Click on It’

In brief: In two Holly Randall Unfiltered clips (Oct. 1 and Oct. 9), trans performer Eva Maxim described the DM that led to her first scene, growing up in Cuba, transitioning at 21 and facial surgery in Korea. Holly Randall told a story about her late father.

Some parents find out about their kid’s career from a cousin. Eva Maxim’s father got a heads-up and a content advisory.

Both clips, “When Sliding Into The DMs Lands A Dream Job with Eva Maxim” (Oct. 1) and ““I Prayed to Wake Up as a Girl…” – Eva Maxim’s Transition Story” (Oct. 9), come from her June 21 interview, “Trans Star Eva Maxim on Cosplay, Transitioning, and Building a Career on Her Own Terms.” Holly Randall introduced her as an “award-nominated performer.”

One DM, one flight

Her origin story was refreshingly direct. She said she messaged a performer “under the pretense” of wanting career advice, when really she wanted a “hit it and quit it type of situation.” A couple of weeks after they met, he offered her a scene, told her where to get tested, and asked if she was available. “I booked my flight to LA and I was in the studio.”

She told her mom right away. Her mom, she said, is “my number one supporter in absolutely every decision that I have taken in my life.” Dad got a different briefing (2:14 in the clip):

I don’t know what kind of content you watch, but if you see someone that looks like me, it’s me. Yeah, don’t click on it.

“He just stood quiet and laughed about it,” she said. After the first scene, her thought was: “Well, I did it. There is no going back.” Until then, she said, “I used to be a stealth trans girl,” working at “a straight club back in Miami.”

‘That’s me’

“I remember being a little boy and praying to wake up as the girl,” she said in the Oct. 9 clip. She grew up in Cuba and “didn’t even know if like that was possible,” and had never seen a trans person. She came out as gay first, but stayed “very sad and depressed.” After coming to America, she said, she saw a trans woman for the first time: “I’m like that’s me.”

The first trans woman she asked for help, someone she took to lunch, told her, “Oh, I don’t see it for you.” She won’t name her: “I’m not going to give her clout.” Later, while working as a makeup artist, she met another trans woman who walked her through starting hormones; they are still friends. She started transitioning at 21 and said she’s glad she waited. When her mom found the hormones, “she thought I was doing drugs.”

She said she had no surgery in her 20s. At 30, “it’s time for a tune-up.” She flew to Korea alone for facial surgery, saying “I didn’t do it for cheaper. I did it for the natural aesthetics,” and put the cost at “50 55k for the face.” The goal, she said, was to “look like myself,” with “the same features that I have, just like softer.”

Holly’s turn

Her dad story reminded Randall of her own. “Obviously my parents made pornography,” she said, so her father would recommend scenes “that maybe we should emulate for work.” Near the end of his life, she said, “my father got Parkinson’s,” and his hearing was going, so the porn in his room got loud enough to echo through the house while the nanny was feeding Randall’s baby. Her request: “Dad, can you turn the porn down just a little bit?” His reply: “Oh, sorry.”

Randall’s parents are erotic photographer Suze Randall and writer-director Humphry Knipe. Wikipedia says Knipe made adult films under the name Victor Nye and died Jan. 16, 2023, at 81. His Parkinson’s is Randall’s account; we didn’t find it in published biographies. Eva Maxim’s upbringing, transition timeline and surgery costs are her own account. In the full interview she said she lives in Las Vegas and turns down scenes that would “denigrate my community”: “I’m a role model.” She is @Eva_maxim on X. Promoting her episode in June, Randall wrote that “if personality was a renewable energy source, @Eva_maxim could power a small planet.”

Two dads, two volume settings: one got a warning label, the other needed a mute button.
